This intermediate mountain bike course is aimed at those riders who are already competent in the four 'Core Skills' and are ready to take their mountain biking to the next level with the help of our expert coaches.
At Cyclewise we have some of the most highly qualified and experienced coaches in the UK working with us. They are very passionate about the sport of mountain biking and how they can help you to improve your riding so that you get the most out of your time on the bike.
Using video feedback and analysis, we will teach you to skim the rough stuff, ride drops like they don't exist, rail berms and clear obstacles using our purpose-built coaching trail. During the course we will take you on some great routes where you will be able to use your newly acquired skills.
So what are the Intermediate Skills?
Bunny Hops - The ability to hop the bike over an obstacle in a controlled manner.
Step Overs - The ability to independently lift each wheel over an obstacle.
Step Ups - The ability to ride along and step the bike up on to a section of trail.
Drop Offs - The ability to ride of a small drop in a controlled manner using body position.
All these skills are extremely useful on both man-made and natural trails. Wherever you tend to ride, you will instantly see the difference these techniques make to your riding and the things you can attempt while out on the trail. Where necessary we will use video feedback so you can admire yourself when you nail the best drop off or bunny hop of your life! This course will take you out of your comfort zone and beyond, giving you the confidence and ability to attempt moves and terrain you would never have attempted before.
Revision of Core Skills: - Weight shift and the cone of movement, track stands, manual front wheel lifts, power assisted front wheel lifts, rear wheel lifts, understanding of climbing & descending and breaking.
Intermediate Skills: - Riding a berm, picking a line, riding on technical terrain - learning these skills will allow you to ride smoothly and in control on the most tricky and technical sections of trail.
The Intermediate Skills put onto the trail: - Now you know what the Intermediate Skills are, it's time to put them on the trail. We will find the trail that's right for you and apply all your newly acquired skills. Using video feedback we will be able to coach you to the very highest standards, making sure your skills are technically correct and giving you the confidence to become the rider you want to be.

Intermediate Skills Course ReviewsThis was a very enjoyable course and was delivered at just the right pace for the group. Your facilities at Whinlatter are perfect and my wife also enjoyed her walk in the forest and the excellent cafe. I will be back for more.
Work and other commitments have left me little time to sit in front of my computer so this note of appreciation is a little late. We attended the imtermediate skills course on April10 and Graham was a fantastic instructor providing us with new skills to improve our riding capabilities. Despite my tumble which required a visit to the hospital at the end of the course for a few stitches and a tetanus jab our riding skills and confidence continue to improve. We will be back for some more tuition. Can you pass on our belated appreciation to Graham and we look forward to more training with Cyclewise.
I just wanted to let you know what a great time I had on the Intermediate Skills course in May. My riding has improved so much and I wish I had done something like this years ago. The coach was very good at getting us to understand and then action all the technical skills. I am looking forward to using these new skills when I go to France in the summer. Please pass my thanks on to Graham.
I really did not think I would get as much out of the course as I did. The knowledge of the instructor was suberb and he was very good at demonstrating the various techniques we were learning. The use of video playback was also very helpful. I can thoroughly recommend this course to anyone looking to improve their own riding skills. The location was also stunning and one of the best places I have ridden.[email protected] and we will organise that booking for you.
