Course Description
An exciting and challenging holiday activity to keep your 11 - 14 yr olds busy whilst learning new skills and making new friends.
Cyclewise now offers 3-day mountain biking clubs for kids during the school holidays for 8 - 14 yr olds. These progressive kids MTB courses are specifically designed for young riders to help develop their riding skills, build their confidence and give them the technical ability to control their bike and stay safe on the trails. The clubs are split into 2 age groups, with our 'Junior Shredders' sessions for 8 - 10 yr olds running during the mornings and our 'Young Shredders' for 11 - 14 yr olds running during the afternoons.
These sessions are an amazing opportunity to explore the trails at Whinlatter under the guidance of our enthusiastic and friendly staff. Our fully qualified coaches are very experienced in working with young people, hold up to date Safeguarding and First Aid qualifications and are also DBS checked so we can offer a real forest adventure all within our strict safety guidelines.
Junior Shredders
Whinlatter Forest has an amazing variety of graded trails available to experience. The aim of this 'Junior Shredders 'course is to not only offer excellent skills coaching and some amazing riding but to also make our young rider more self-sufficient in navigation and trailside repairs.
Each day we will focus on a new skill/technique followed by a ride on a suitable graded trail.
Day 1 - Coaching on Braking, Body Position and Cornering progressing to a ride around the Quercus Trail.
Day 2 – Puncture Repairs, Front Wheel Lifts and a ride around our Purple Trail which is a combination of the Blue route and lower section of the South Red Trail
Day 3 - MTB Orienteering – Mapwork and dealing with getting lost where we will ride the Whinlatter orienteering course. The Blue Quercus Trail and both Altura Red Trails provide us with lots of opportunities to practice these new skills and techniques.
Working on a maximum ratio of 2 coaches to 10 junior riders, these afternoon sessions will offer exciting, quality coaching in a safe learning environment. It will allow our 'Junior Shredders' the opportunity to learn the skills required to be self-sufficient on the trails whilst making like-minded friends and learning the techniques that will make them safer and better riders both now and in the future.
Certificates will be issued upon completion of all 3 days.
So why not leave your child with us for the afternoon whilst you have the opportunity to ride the trails, go for a walk, grab a coffee or just catch up on some jobs.
