  • Course Description

Learning from experience we have come up with a ladies only core skills course designed to give a female rider the chance to come along and learn without the pressure they can sometimes find themselves under from a more confident/able riding partner in a testosterone free zone!

Our women's only MTB skills coaching course is ideal for those lady mountain bikers who want to improve their own personal riding skills in a relaxed and friendly all female environment. This ladies only mountain bike course covers all the core skills techniques required to be able to ride with confidence and control and at the end of the course you will be given personalised feedback and an action plan to help you improve further.

So what are the Core Skills?

    The Biking Cone of Movement
    - The bike moves NOT you. Critical if you’re determined to becoming the boss of your bike.
    Track Stands
    - The ability to balance, the most important skill to learn when it comes to riding a mountain bike.
    Manual Front Wheel Lifts
    - The ability to lift the front wheel over an obstacle using body position and weight shift.
    Power-assisted Front Wheel Lifts
    - The ability to lift the front wheel at slow speed over an obstacle whilst climbing.
    Rear Wheel Lifts
    - The ability to lift the rear wheel over an obstacle. As well as the 4 core skills, we give you a thorough breakdown and understanding of climbing, descending and braking.

    Course Content:

Bike Set Up - Getting the bike to work for you, looking at saddle, suspension and brake set up.
Weight Shift and the Cone of Movement
    - If you don't allow movement you will fall off, this is where riding starts.
    Climbing, Descending and Braking
    - Theory & Practical.
    The Quercus Challenge
    - Summary of all skills coached during the morning session.
    Trackstands
-The ability to balance, the most important skill to learn when it comes to riding a mountain bike.
    Manual Front Wheel Lifts
-The ability to lift the front wheel over an obstacle using body position and weight shift.
    Power assisted Front Wheel Lifts
-The ability to lift the front wheel at slow speed over an obstacle whilst climbing.
    Rear Wheel Lifts
-The ability to lift the rear wheel over an obstacle.

Once you have got to grips with the techniques on day 1 you will be given the opportunity to transfer these skills to the trail on day 2 under the guidance of our expert MTB coaches. Using video feedback (where necessary) we will show you where you are going wrong and right and show you how much more you can get from your biking with these skills in place.

    Women Only MTB Course Feedback

I thought I'd drop you a line having had a little time to think about the ladies only mountain bike course and what we did. Since the course, I've been up to some short local red trails, and tackled almost everything with confidence, and now looking forward to taking it further - much to the amazement of my husband. The difference being that I now know that actually I can do it, and having managed the 'chute', feel confident to take on most things.I'm able to chat to people about what we did, what we learnt, and approach the obstacles with more reason, which is great. So thanks to you all, for a fabulous weekend, I would very much like to come back for the next one, and Mike feels he has all my birthday and Christmas presents sorted for the time being!

I did a women's core skills course with Nick and I wanted to let you know that whenever I ride, I still hear his voice in my head (usually telling me to look where I'm going on a tricky corner!) and it always helps me ride better! We came back to Whinlatter yesterday to ride for the first time since the course - I would have guessed that I hadn't improved very much in that time but I couldn't believe the difference! I had an absolute blast and I'm so chuffed with the progress I've made, and it's in no small part thanks to Nick and that course! Just wanted to let you know in case he is still there to pass this on! Thank you!!

Brilliant course, really relaxed atmosphere and adapted to suit the abilities and aims of those of us participating. Would definitely recommend to others.

Thank you so much to Nick for an amazing weekend on the ladies skills course! It was everything I'd hoped for and more and I really enjoyed it. Still grinning and aching today :) Can't wait to get out and practise! Huge thanks to Nick for being such a friendly, patient and excellent coach!
